Strathfield Child Care Centre Fiona - Philosophy

Community

We believe it is important to be aware of the diversity and multicultural nature of our community and to reflect this diversity throughout the centre, as well as in our programming and daily experiences we provide our children.

Program

We believe that children are active, capable learners, and will therefore implement an educational program that allows for flexibility, exploration and discovery. By providing hands on experiences that are meaningful, developmentally appropriate, and most importantly based on children’s interests and strengths we are able to provide our children and families with these opportunities for learning.

Children

At Fiona Childcare Learning Centre we believe it is essential to provide children with a welcoming, safe and stimulating environment where children are supported in their endeavours and discoveries about the world around them. It is vital that children are given opportunities for learning across all areas of development, including social, emotional, intellectual, physical and creative. We therefore provide a balanced and relaxed learning environment, where children are given the opportunity to develop a healthy and positive self-esteem, and where they are able to play at their own pace and level of development.   We believe that children are individuals with their own individual needs, interests and strengths and so we will respect their rights and choices at all times, as well as provide individual programs based on observations of children’s interests, strengths and needs.

Staff

We believe that it is the staff that are, the biggest asset within our early childhood centre, and we will value, respect, and appreciate what each member brings with them into our centre.

Parents

We believe that parents are the first teachers of their children and so we will embrace and encourage parents’ participation and involvement within our centre on a daily basis, as well as in our program development.   We believe that relationships that are established between staff and parents are valuable and crucial to the education and well being of children in our centre.

Physical Environment

We believe that it is between the early years of birth to five that children are developing crucial life skills. Therefore we will work to create an environment that promotes self-help skills, independence and an appreciation for materials. We will also endeavour to create an environment of comfort, safety and aesthetics.
