Camelot Early Learning Centre - Richmond Childcare Philosophy
We believe that the role of Camelot Early Learning Centre is to meet the needs of the children and families while they are in our care.
At Camelot we believe that an environment, which is safe, secure and encouraging, is adopted throughout the centre. By providing an environment where by safety and security is promoted children are able to feel a sense of trust, warmth and comfort.

We believe children should be cared for by educators, who present themselves in a professional manner, who are dedicated to the early childhood profession and who are flexible to the individual needs and wants of the children and their families.
We value the importance of professional development and actively encourage our staff to participate in these opportunities.
We believe children learn through different types of play, modelling/imitating, observing, experiencing, discovering/exploring and contemplating. These forms of play as well as the children’s developmental stages and current interests are taken into consideration when planning.
We believe that by incorporating natural and recycle materials into the program imagination and creativity is encouraged, this stimulates children’s sensors, creates a calm and inviting atmosphere, encourages an awareness of the environment and a love and respect of nature. Incorporation of natural materials to the program enhances opportunities for open-minded experiences ensuring there is no outcome or product thus enhancing child’s self esteem and confidence.
We believe that the children’s program of learning experiences should reflect the developing interests, developmental needs and family’s goals of their child’s development. We believe that these learning experiences should be offered to enhance children’s developmental areas and to prepare them for their individual futures.
At Camelot we believe that all children are equal irrespective of culture, capabilities, religion, gender and age. We recognise that all children are special and have individual needs that are embraced and accepted. We believe in recognising and supporting individual requirements for children with additional needs. Staff challenge anti-bias behaviours within the program.
We believe that cultural values and cultural diversity is an important aspect within today’s society and as such is welcomed at Camelot. We respect diversities between children and encourage culturally diverse programs.
We believe that a child’s diet is an important aspect of their development so therefore at Camelot we will provide a menu that is nutritious, well balanced and caters for diversity and individual needs.
We believe that the contributions of families are essential and suggestions, participation and feedback is strongly encouraged. The centre will endeavour to find new and innovative ideas to encourage this. Open and honest communication between staff and parents is encouraged. We believe that a child’s family is the most important factor in a child’s life so therefore unity of families at the centre is celebrated.
We believe that staff’s role is to provide a nurturing, stimulating and responsive environment and to interact with all children in a way which makes learning possible. We believe that one of the roles of staff is to manage behaviour through guidance positive reinforcement and encouragement. We value staff that have a commitment to young children and their families and a range of early childhood qualifications and/or experience and will endeavour to employ staff that reflect a diversity of backgrounds.
We believe it is necessary for management to establish relationships with staff, children and families. We value the need of open, honest and trusting communication between all.
We believe in offering quality care to the community and strive to form relationships with local community bodies. We believe in utilising the resources within the community to enhance the standards of care.
We believe through guidance and expectations of governing bodies we achieve high quality care and apply systematic approaches to all areas of programming and administration.
We believe that a statement of the centre’s philosophy changes as new insights are gained and practice is evaluated.
