AlphaTykes Italian Program
Right now, your child is in the inside of their Golden Age of Learning. The window for your child to acquire a foreign language as quickly as they can now, begins to close at 6 years of age. Native-speaking teachers from AlphaTykes visit East Ivanhoe early Learning Centre every week. They run lessons with each group, 30 minutes for Toddlers and Junior Kindy and 55 minutes for Senior Kindy and PrePrep.
To reinforce and consolidate the children’s learning, East Ivanhoe staff have the centre children learn some Italian everyday. Mainly this is through the songs and games learnt during the lessons, to make sure it’s all fun and ‘play-based’. This means that every child that attends East Ivanhoe Early Learning Centre is exposed to the Italian language.
The program runs like a school year with four blocks of 10 week terms. During the lessons the children learn Italian in a fun environment through games, songs and craft.
Hey Dee Ho
Hey Dee Ho is a music and dance program that allows the children to express themselves openly and creatively and develops an appreciation of expressive arts as well as a love of music and movement. These classes are conducted weekly and there is no additional cost involved for families, allowing all children to participate.
Letterland - Successfully teaching your child to read and write
Letterland is a unique, phonics based approach to teaching, reading, writing and spelling for 3-8 year olds. Letterland provides a link between letter sounds and letter shapes.
At East Ivanhoe Early Learning Centre we believe it is essential that our preschool children are given a solid foundation in phonics before moving to primary school. Letterland helps to build this foundation in a unique play based way.
Your preschool child has free access to computers at East Ivanhoe Early Learning Centre. This well established and successful system will help teach your child
• to listen and use spoken language
• explore and experiment with language
• sustain attentive listening and respond to what they have heard
• extend their vocabulary and explore the meaning of sounds and new words
• hear and say initial sounds and words
• link sounds to letters, name sounds and letters of the alphabet
• know that print carries meaning and is read from left to right
