Sharyn - Centre Manager

My name is Sharyn Taylor-Bishop I have been in the childcare industry for 16 years.

I completed year 12 at Taylor’s College and then went on firstly to complete my Certificate 3 in Children’s Services and then my Diploma. I also have completed my Food Handlers course and regularly updating my First Aid knowledge. I have attended many in-services from Multi-Cultural to Program Planning.

Throughout my time in childcare I have worked in various rooms progressing to Centre Manager.

I have been in this role for the past 8 years and my experience in management is in private centres and with a large childcare operator. I have thorough knowledge of Accreditation requirements and I have been through the process several times.

My personal philosophy reflects providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for all children and families.

The following points reflect my personal philosophy:

  • Providing children with a warm, predictable, friendly and inviting atmosphere where they will feel secure and happy in their new environment.
  • I provide a safe, hygienic and well supervised centre.
  • The East Ivanhoe Early Learning Centre environment caters for the needs and interests of all children together with professional development of staff members.
  • I ensure that the programs promote inclusion from all facets of the community.
  • I create a learning environment which will encourage the children to interact, take roles and develop relationships with staff and other children through play.
  • I ensure that the children are exposed to small group, whole group and individual learning experiences that have been developed from the needs, strengths and interests of each child.

Ladybirds Room

6 - 20 months

A range of developmentally appropriate activities are planned each week for the Ladybirds room.We provide a stimulating environment focussing on all areas of development specifically looking at gross motor, fine motor, language and sensory.

Activities such as music and movement with instruments encourage their language and fine motor skills. Making cups of tea in home corner and talking on the telephones to encourage both their social and emotional skills.

Sensory activities such as feely bags, textured books, and shaker bottles are just a few resources that we use.The children have a separate outdoor play area that engage them in activities such as tunnels to crawl through, sand shell, building blocks, trikes and swings are just a few pieces of equipment that we use in our program.

We follow each child’s individual routine throughout the day, ensuring that their needs are being met.
