Extra Activities
Pals Program
PALS Social Skills Program has been designed by clinical psychologists and early childhood teachers for children from 3 to six years of age. It is a 10 week program that incorporates puppets, pictures, songs and activities to enhance their understanding of feelings and how to be a friend.
Music Magic
Music Magic focuses on the fundamental musical concepts, including stopping and starting, sound texture, beat, tempo, dynamics, pitch and rhythm. The educator and the children explore the concepts together and these are brought alive through musical play involving games, singing, movement, playing and improvising on instruments and conducting. The songs and games encourage active listening and participation for groups and for the individual child.
Yoga
We take a moment after lunch and before School Readiness time to practise a few Yoga positions. Yoga Games for children is an introduction to yoga that promotes relaxation and calm through movements and poses. Children are encouraged to progress at their own pace. Different games encourage them to use different sense giving a new perspective on the world around them.
Letterland - Successfully teaching your child to read and write
Letterland is a unique, phonics based approach to teaching, reading, writing and spelling for 3-8 year olds. Letterland provides a link between letter sounds and letter shapes.
At Wallaby Street Weenies we believe it is essential that our preschool children are given a solid foundation in phonics before moving to primary school. Letterland helps to build this foundation in a unique play based way.
Your preschool child has free access to computers at Wallaby Street Weenies. This well established and successful system will help teach your child
• to listen and use spoken language
• explore and experiment with language
• sustain attentive listening and respond to what they have heard
• extend their vocabulary and explore the meaning of sounds and new words
• hear and say initial sounds and words
• link sounds to letters, name sounds and letters of the alphabet
• know that print carries meaning and is read from left to right
